Christmas Gift Packing 2019

Jake and Sophie hand League Chair their Christmas money

Poorly children in hospital over the festive period can look forward to a happier Christmas thanks to the generosity of two local youngsters. Sophie and Jake Murphy, aged 11 and eight, asked their parents to donate the money they would have spent on presents for them to the Kent & Canterbury Hospital for children who will attend hospital during the festive season. They helped League volunteers pack 220 children’s gift bags, with a little help from the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Terry Westgate, and the Sheriff, Cllr Jeanette Stockley. Catriona Irvine, League Chairman, said it was a lovely heart-warming gesture by the children.

Gift packing didn't stop there - the following week, League volunteers gathered to assemble an additional 500 gift bags for adults, to be distributed over Christmas. A fine example of volunteers coming together and having fun whilst at the same time supporting patients at the hospital.
